Occupation: general, prime minister

My name is Hideki Tojo. I am a general of Japan and I served as a prime minister of World War II. I am a firm believer of expansion. I think that Japan is not large enough. It is to small and we need to get bigger in order to be a more powerful nation as a whole. The distribution of natural resources around the world is very unfair. I believe that we do not get our fair share of goods as opposed to the rest of the world. I believe that the current war going on now, is a prime time for our expansion. After world war one had ended, we as a nation realized that future wars would be inevitable, so we prepared properly. We had taken many of our citizen’s positions and turned them into businesses that built and delivered supplies for war. As of our current standing, there is no other way to gain the resources necessary to fight a modern war other than by force of arms. However, we were not successful in our plans as I had hoped we would be. I am infact writing this diary from a jail sell. You see, after our country had surrendered, I thought to myself that I had not accomplished what I had set out to do, and that I had brought shame and dishonor over my family’s name. Therefore, I tried to shoot myself in the chest. Unfortunately, my attempt of putting an end to my misery failed. I was nursed back to health and as of right now I am awaiting trials for war crimes including the charge of initiating and the waging of aggressive war. This is the story of my life as a Japanese general and a prime minister.
